Moviedle

Guess the mystery movie from its cast — with bonus modes for when you want a different puzzle.

Moviedle is a movie guessing game: a mystery film is picked for the round, and the cast is revealed one name at a time, along with how old each actor was when the film came out. You work out which movie it is from that alone — start with the actors you recognise, place the era from the ages, and narrow the field from there.

It is the film-buff's version of the daily puzzle format: two minutes, no login, and a score you can compare with a friend. Beyond the classic round there are extra modes to move through once the main game is done — Twenty Questions, where you ask your way to the answer; Moviemoji, where the title is rebuilt in emoji; and Fill The Grid, where you fill in a grid of titles rather than guess a single one. DLE HQ runs it without the daily lock, so you can play as many rounds back to back as you want.

How to Play Moviedle

  1. Open the board. It loads here on the page — no download, no install, no account.
  2. Read the first cast member. A name appears, with the actor's age at the time of release.
  3. Place the era. The ages are the strongest clue you get — they date the film fast.
  4. Work through the cast. Each new name either confirms your guess or rules a decade out.
  5. Submit the title, then try a bonus mode. Twenty Questions, Moviemoji and Fill The Grid are all waiting once the classic round is done.

Play free online, with no download

Moviedle is this page. The board is the frame at the top. Nothing is installed, and nothing asks you to sign in. On a computer, click the frame, pick a mode, type a title, and press Enter. Arrow keys move through the suggestions, and Escape closes the list. On a phone, tap the box and then tap a title. The box is an ordinary text field, so the keyboard is the one already on the device.

Four mode buttons stay on the board the whole time: Classic, Twenty Questions, Moviemoji, and Fill The Grid. The pressed button is the round you are in. Switching modes starts that mode immediately. New round, in the header, leaves the current puzzle. The same words appear again when you solve one, and that button starts another puzzle in the same mode.

Suggestions come from the bundled catalog of well-known films. A string that is not a title or a listed alias is refused and does not count. Submitting the same title twice in a guess-the-film mode does not count twice. The line under the buttons tells you what the last action changed.

How the classic cast is revealed

Classic opens on one name. Beside it is an age, written as age and a number, plus which billed name this is. The number is the film's release year minus that actor's birth year. The year itself is not on the card. A title you already know can be typed at once. Show next actor adds the next billed name without spending a guess. A wrong title also adds the next name, until the billed cast on the card is complete.

The winning panel names the film and the year, and it counts the titles you submitted. Show next actor is not a guess. Best, under the header, is the lowest classic guess count stored in this browser. Found counts solved rounds in every mode. Streak counts solved rounds in a row. New round before a solve resets Streak and does not add to Found. Refreshing starts another round and leaves those three numbers as they were.

Moviedle Rules and Tips

Unlimited rounds in every mode

Solving a round ends it and shows New round. The next film does not wait until tomorrow. You can chain Classic, then Twenty Questions, then Moviemoji, then Fill The Grid, for as long as you like. Leaving a round with the header New round is not a solve. The unlimited version is the only version on this page: there is no daily lock and no account gate.

What the bonus modes ask

Twenty Questions keeps the title hidden and gives you a fixed menu. Each button is one yes-or-no question: released before 1980, won Best Picture, from a named decade, or whether a named genre is on the film. A question can be asked once. The answer replaces the button label with Yes or No. The guess box stays above that list, so you can name the film before you have asked anything.

Moviemoji shows the title as an emoji string and nothing else. Reveal the year adds the release year if you want it. Then you type the title the same way as in Classic. The emoji is the whole clue until you ask for that year.

Fill The Grid is a three by three board. Each square names a row rule and a column rule. A rule is a decade, a genre, or an actor. The title you enter has to match both rules, and it cannot already be sitting in another square. Several catalog titles can be legal for one square. The first square starts selected. Tap another square to move the guess there. A title that matches the square but would make the rest of the board impossible is refused, so a finished path always remains. Clear square empties the selected square. The round ends when all nine squares hold a title.

Moviedle vs Wordle

Moviedle belongs to the same family of daily games like Wordle: one small puzzle, one answer, done in a coffee break. What it swaps out is the vocabulary — instead of guessing letters, you are guessing a film from the people in it. And where the classic daily puzzle makes you wait until tomorrow, this version lets you start the next round immediately, in whichever of the four modes you feel like playing.

Wordle Unlimited on this site is still the five-letter word game. Moviedle spends the same short sitting on a film catalog. A miss in Classic, Twenty Questions, or Moviemoji does not spend a limited budget. Fill The Grid is the odd one out: you are not hunting a single hidden title, you are covering nine labeled squares with nine different films.
